Mackinac Community Equestrian Center Fund
|With the mandate to promote and preserve the unique equine animal culture and its history on Mackinac Island, Mackinac Horsemen's Association (MHA) has erected the Mackinac Community Equestrian Center (MCEC) on Mackinac Island for housing horses and providing equestrian education and training. The MHA believes that a key component in preserving the horse culture in the future is to develop an interest and love of horses in young members of our community.
Providing access to horses and proper training is a top priority. Over the past fifteen years the MHA and 4-H program has provided horse experience to many young people and anticipate a growing demand for more lessons in the future. The "4H Youth Group" is permanently housed at the community stable. The facility includes an education center, caretaker cottage, tack rooms, box stalls, an historic photo display, turnouts and a riding ring.
MHA and the 4-H program give over 300 lessons annually to almost 100 individuals at MCEC! Their regular events are very successful: Mary Milton Jumping Mondays, Speed Show Sundays, and Driving Cones Course Wednesdays. They also host barn sleepovers, including saddle fitting, jumping, flat work, and horsemanship. The new community stable was built on land leased from the Mackinac Island State Park across from Wawashkamo Golf Course. The MHA appreciates all donations in support of this project.
