This August, the Mackinac Island Community Foundation celebrated the election of a new member to its Board of Trustees. Former Mackinac State Historic Parks Director and current Wawashkamo Golf Club Historian, Phil Porter, was elected to the MICF Board on August 10, 2023.
Bringing with him 50 years of experience making a difference on Mackinac Island through his work as one of the longest-serving Parks directors, Mr. Porter will be a valuable asset to the board. Prior to being appointed director in 2003, Mr. Porter had spent his entire career at MSHP-first as an interpreter, then as a curator, and finally chief curator. He has served on numerous boards in the state of Michigan, which currently includes the Little Traverse Conservancyin addition to MICF, and has been awarded and widely recognized for his contributions to the field of historic preservation.
“I am honored to join the Mackinac Island Community Foundation board of directors, ”says Mr. Porter, “The foundation has been a tremendous asset to our community, and I look forward to working with the staff and my fellow trustees to continue this tradition of excellence”.
”The current foundation board is co-chaired by James Murray and Kathleen Rickley. Phil Porter is welcomed by fellow board members Margaret Doud, who serves as secretary, treasurer Rick Linn, Bob Benser, Brad Chambers, Carol Rearick, Lorna Puttkammer Straus, Brenda Bunker, and Jane Young.
