MICF welcomes new Board Member Marta Olson

Aug 13, 2024 | Press Release

This July, the Mackinac Island Community Foundation celebrated the election of a new member to its Board of Trustees. Marta Olson was officially appointed to the Board at the foundation’s meeting on July 9, 2024. She joins the organization during the celebration of its 30th anniversary of operations on Mackinac Island, which was commemorated on July 11 at Mission Point Resort.

Recently retired from her work as the owner of Mintaka Design, a web development company serving over a hundred clients in the small business and nonprofit sector, Mrs. Olson has been an active member of many area organizations throughout her career. These have included Mackinac Associates, Mackinac Horsemen’s Association, and Northern Health Plan. A dedicated board member of the Little Traverse Conservancy land trust, she has served as the organization’s chair and is especially passionate about nature and preservation activities.

Her previous work as MICF’s webmaster gave her an in-depth look at the foundation’s work throughout the years.

“I’m honored to join the Mackinac Island Community Foundation’s board,” says Mrs. Olson, “I’ve admired and supported the foundation’s good work from its beginning 30 years ago, and, as its webmaster for almost 20 years, I had a front row seat observing its terrific progress.  I look forward to learning how I can help the organization meet the important mission of supporting the unique needs of our island community.”The current Mackinac Island Community Foundation board is co-chaired by James Murray and Kathleen Rickley. Marta Olson is welcomed by fellow board members Margaret Doud, who serves as secretary, treasurer Rick Linn, Bob Benser, Brad Chambers, Carol Rearick, Phil Porter, Lorna Puttkammer Straus, Brenda Bunker, and Jane Young.
