The Island might be winding down for the winter, but there’s plenty of excitement at the Mackinac Island Community Foundation. Formerly a staff of two, the organization is expanding operations with the addition of a new Administrative Assistant, Sara Hancock. She joins the organization on the heels of its 30th Anniversary Celebration this year.
Originally from White Lake, Michigan, Sara arrived on Mackinac Island with her family in 2020. A parent of four Mackinac Island Public School students, she enjoys being involved in activities that serve the youth of Mackinac Island. An active School Board member, she was re-elected this year, and serves on the school’s Parent Group. She is a member of Ste. Anne’s Catholic Church, and teaches Faith Formation classes to young Islanders. An avid runner in her free time, Sara also leads an after-school Running Club for young Islanders.
Sara is eager to take her passion for volunteerism to the next level in her new role at the Foundation. “The people on the Island been helpful and supportive to my family since we’ve been here,” she says, “I want to give back to the community that I love.”As the Administrative Assistant, Sara will work with current Community Foundation staff, Executive Director Stephanie McGreevy, and Marketing Associate Maria Sych, arriving as the organization completes its Fall Grant Cycle.
